About Bryan Lopez<\/h1>\n

I\u2019m Bryan Lopez, a cybersecurity and technology executive whose career has focused on the intersection of technology, risk, security, and leadership.<\/p>\n

I currently serve as Senior Vice President, Field CISO, Commercial Cybersecurity at Mastercard, where I lead the Field CISO organization and work with clients, CISOs, executives, and boards on cybersecurity strategy, risk, resilience, and emerging technology.<\/p>\n

My career has spanned the private sector, national laboratories, and the federal technology community. Before Mastercard, I served as a senior leader at Microsoft Federal, working across the U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, National Laboratories, and other federal organizations on complex challenges involving cybersecurity, cloud, artificial intelligence, and scientific computing. Earlier in my career, I held technology and cybersecurity leadership roles at Sandia National Laboratories and the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory.<\/p>\n

Those experiences have shaped how I view cybersecurity. It is not simply a technical discipline. It is a leadership, governance, legal, economic, and increasingly societal issue. The hardest cybersecurity problems are rarely solved by technology alone. They require organizations and their leaders to make better decisions about risk, accountability, trust, and tradeoffs.<\/p>\n

That perspective is also why I continue to study the intersection of cybersecurity, law, policy, and governance. I hold CISSP and CISM certifications and am finishing a Masters Legal Studies focusing in Cybersecurity Policy at Texas A&M. I\u2019m particularly interested in cybersecurity strategy, artificial intelligence, technology policy, national security, regulation, and how leaders navigate technological change.<\/p>\n

I write about cybersecurity, AI, leadership, law, public policy, and emerging technology on this site, usually with a focus on what these developments mean in practice. My goal is not simply to explain what is happening, but to examine why it matters, where the risks and opportunities are, and how leaders should think about what comes next.<\/p>\n

Outside of work, my life revolves around family and faith. My wife, Sherry, and I have been married for more than 20 years, and we are raising ten children. Adoption is an important part of our family\u2019s story, and several of our children have special needs. Those experiences have profoundly influenced how I think about service, responsibility, patience, and leadership.<\/p>\n

My faith is foundational and shapes the way I approach family, work, and community. I\u2019m active in my local church, and when I have a little free time, I enjoy playing guitar.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, this site is a place to share what I\u2019m learning, explore ideas, and challenge assumptions about technology, security, leadership, and the issues surrounding them. If something here helps a reader think differently, make a better decision, or ask a better question, it has served its purpose.<\/p>\n
